Frequently-Asked Questions About Jan's Guitar Lessons

How long have you been teaching guitar?

Since 1996 in the Loveland and Fort Collins area.

What are your qualifications?

My formal training consists of private guitar lessons (a total of about five years) and several college guitar classes. I took ten years of piano lessons from grade school through high school, which gave me a good foundation in music theory. Experience and the love of the instrument are also important qualifications.

I am an adult. Is it too late to start taking guitar lessons?

It's never too late! Several years ago, a man who boasted of being 85 years old started guitar lessons with me, and he enjoyed learning to play some of his favorite old songs.

My child obviously has musical talent. What is the earliest age to start playing guitar?

It certainly depends on the child, but in my experience, about seven years old is a good time to start learning to play guitar. Coordination, attention span, and an understanding of how to practice are more developed by then compared to, say, a six-year-old child.

How long will it take before I can play guitar?

It depends on so many things: how much you practice; previous musical experience; how motivated you are; what your goals are.

Will I have to practice?

The more you practice the guitar, the faster your guitar playing will improve.

Where are you located?

My guitar studio is in my home near the Wilson Avenue and 43rd Street intersection in Loveland, Colorasdo.   Call to set up lessons:  970-206-1326.

May I stay at your house during my child's guitar lessons?

Yes. There is always room for parents or a friend or two to visit during the lesson.
